Shrink pots or shrink boxes are a very ancient container. They are made by hollowing a "green" or wet piece of wood, i.e. tree trunck, and carving a groove around the inside near the base and inserting a dry base loosely. The green wood shrinks and tightens up on the dry base creating a container. These most likely predate "coppered" barrel construction. Here is a link one of my blog posts on making shrink pots
